Like many developing economies, those in Africa require significant infrastructure development to meet burgeoning needs for electricity and other resources. SPX is playing an important role by helping to upgrade existing power facilities throughout South Africa, as well as contributing to the construction of new power generation sources.
Working with Hitachi Power Africa (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Hitachi Power Europe GmbH (HPE), SPX is providing key products for the new Kusile Power Station in South Africa. The plant is just one of many new or upgraded facilities which SPX is working on in South Africa.
Designed to consume significantly less water than a conventional wet-cooled coal-fired power plant, the Kusile plant will rely in part on SPX’s highly efficient filters and airpreheaters to help reduce emissions and enhance plant productivity.
SPX is also providing feedwater heaters and air-cooled condensers, which are designed to minimize water usage.
