Mass transit is another industry seeing strong worldwide demand. As more riders hop on buses, they are finding it increasingly convenient thanks to innovations from GFI Genfare®, a division of SPX.
The company provides electronic fare boxes that can accept credit cards, passes or tickets with magnetic strips on them and smart cards, reducing or eliminating the amount of cash riders need to carry.
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is among the customers that have installed electronic fare boxes on its regular and para-transit buses.
Change Back
Among the benefits of that system is the elimination of the dilemma that arises for passengers who want to go travel for the $1.50 fare but have nothing smaller than a $5 bill.
The system takes the passengers’ $5 and gives back a “change card”, which can be used to pay for more rides. Passengers who end up with change cards worth 25 cents can use that plus $1.25 in cash to pay for a ride.
GFI Genfare fare boxes are located in Nashville, Dallas, Cleveland, Washington, DC, Atlanta and many other cities.
