The SPX story started in 1911 when two friends in Michigan foresaw the need for a company that could supply parts to the growing automotive industry. (Read our history.) Through a series of acquisitions and an increased focus on specific end markets, the company has since evolved into a leading Fortune 500 company.
In 2009, SPX ranked #21 on the Barron's 500, a yearly report on how the 500 largest publicly traded companies perform in terms of operating results and investment returns.
We were also cited in Fortune Magazine's Most Admired Companies list in 2008 — considered by many the definitive report card on corporate reputation. Corporate Responsibility Officer Magazine ranked us among 100 companies singled out for their best practices in corporate responsibility.
